Christ the King Early Childhood Development Center was the vision of the Parish identified in the “Vision 20/20” Improvement in Sight. The Development Council through a series of meetings and polls identified the needs of the parish community to include an early childhood program. In the fall of 2005 it was announced our capital campaign “Love of Christ Compels Us” would include the Early Childhood Development Center, the Family Activity Center and the Bell Tower. We broke ground on the ECDC in fall of 2007.
The ECDC opened in October of 2008 with the goal of providing quality care to families in Lubbock who are looking for a Christ filled program.
We received our NAEYC Accreditation in November 2012. NAEYC is an acronym for the National Association for the Education of Young Children and is the leading authority on young children and wrote "Developmentally Appropriate Practice in Early Childhood Programs," which sets the standards for all early childhood education and curriculum guidelines taught today. NAEYC was founded in 1926 and is the world's largest organization working on behalf of young children from birth through eight.
School Philosophy
The ECDC provides an environment where children may learn independence, develop at their own pace and grow in a loving atmosphere of Christ. We strive to assist children to become competent, responsible, adaptive, problem-solvers and life-long learners through the use of Montessori Curriculum. Our school provides the opportunities for children to develop physically, spiritually and intellectually by encouraging learning and fostering independence. We teach order and self-discipline which will allow children to grow into their true potential as a unique child of God.
Mission: Beginning with The Word.
We bring Christ to the Children who attend the ECDC each day, through our thoughts, words and actions.
Vision
Christ the King Cathedral Early Childhood Development Center is where families with young children learn, share and grow in the spirit of Jesus Christ. The ECDC is child-centered and committed to providing a nurturing Montessori environment, developing lasting relationships with families, and providing opportunities to challenge young children. We offer a rich learning atmosphere using Montessori Curriculum which promotes a child’s natural curiosity and a sense of excitement about learning. The faculty and staff are faith-filled, dedicated, knowledgeable in their professions, and strive to meet the individual needs of the children. The center is sensitive to family issues and encourages parents/guardians to fulfill their role as the first educator of their child.
Beliefs
The ECDC is licensed through the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. We meet or exceed the Minimum Standards. Our goal is to read, absorb, train and participate in learning about Montessori, what it is and the philosophy of Montessori. The NAEYC (National Association of the Education of Young Children) is an elite accreditation which includes positive relationships, curriculum, effective teaching approaches, ongoing assessments, nutrition and health, educated teaching staff, strong family and community ties all within a safe physical environment. The NAEYC goal is working toward exceptional child care for the community of CTK and the surrounding area. We are currently enrolled in the self-assessment process for NAEYC Accreditation. The Center is operated under the jurisdiction of the Advisory School Board, Pastor and the Center Director.
